It’s that dreaded time of the month for me.
No, not my period.
But something almost as bad- if not worse. It’s… (dun dun dun) a reading slump.
Okay, I’m not sure about you guys, but these tend to pop up once a month for me, maybe once in two months if I’m lucky.
I’ll have my high time, when I’m really motivated to read- that usually means a book every two days. This of course, is wonderful, but it never lasts. The curse of a binge-reader, my friends.
I think this month will be one of my all-time worst months for 2016, because like an idiot, I went for the Throne of Glass re-readathon. I don’t regret it, because a memory refresh was much needed, but oh my goodness those books are (if you need a refresh too, check out my first two summaries. More to come soon). ToG is one of my favorite, if not number one, series. So inevitably, reading all of them within two weeks will leave me in a hangover/slump that will be pretty difficult to get over. What’s even worse is that I know Empire of Storms is just around the corner.
I’ve tried to start new books-multiple times, in fact. I’ve tried The Palace Job by Patrick Weeks, The Thief’s Daughter by Jeff Wheeler, Eleanor by Jason Gurley, and Breaking Dawn by I-think-you-know-who. I even tried a contemporary: Spicy Coffee, Sweer Love by Anna Andrews. I never got past page 20 on any of them, which is sad because I actually think I’ll enjoy all of them.
I’m going to force myself to read my most current pick-up, Drop Dead Perfect by Rick Murcer. This one is a suspense-thriller-murderer-type book, which is out of my usual genre zone. I think this will help because it’s way out of the realm of Throne of Glass. Reading another fantasy at this point would be setting myself up for disappointment.
Well, I have a boring week at home before I start my junior year (high school). I’m not old enough to drive yet, so I’m stuck at home. It kind of sucks, but at least I can force myself to sit down and read.
Thank you guys so much for reading. What books leave you in reading slumps, and how do you get out of them? Let me know in the comments!
