Waiting on Wednesday: A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir

Happy Wednesday! WOW is a weekly post created by Breaking the Spine to talk about anticipated releases. This month, as well as September, have some super-awesome releases in store. I did Empire of Storms last week, so my next most-anticipated is the sequel to the very cliffhangery novel, An Ember in the Ashes, which is A Torch Against the Night.

A struggle that I’m sure many of you have experienced is completely forgetting literally everything that happened in the first book of the series, especially when there’s a year-long hiatus until the sequel.

PROTIP: I’ve found the awesomest website ever for recaps. It’s called Book Series Recaps, and they have a ton of popular YA book summaries on there. Go check them out–its blogs like these that make the book world a better place.

Here is the recap for An Ember in the Ashes, for those of you who need it. I remember that it was well-written and that there was a very swoon-worthy guy, but that’s about it. Don’t ask me for names.

I know quite a few people received an ARC of this at one of this year’s conventions. I’m BEYOND JEALOUS!!!! Please no spoilers! Also, big news: books three and four in this series were approved! Yay!

Details/Synopsis

A Torch Against the Night (An Ember in the Ashes, #2)

Elias and Laia are running for their lives.
After the events of the Fourth Trial, Martial soldiers hunt the two fugitives as they flee the city of Serra and undertake a perilous journey through the heart of the Empire.

Laia is determined to break into Kauf – the Empire’s most secure and dangerous prison – to save her brother, who is the key to the Scholars’ survival. And Elias is determined to help Laia succeed, even if it means giving up his last chance at freedom.

But dark forces, human and otherworldly, work against Laia and Elias. The pair must fight every step of the way to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, most heartbreaking of all, Helene – Elias’s former friend and the Empire’s newest Blood Shrike.

Bound to Marcus’s will, Helene faces a torturous mission of her own – one that might destroy her: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped him escape… and kill them both.

Thank you all for reading! What books are you looking forward to in these upcoming weeks? Fall is such a great time to be a YA lover.
